Our annual Halloween party this year was inspired by Day of the Dead! Instead of a spooky and haunted themed party, we hosted a Dia de los Muertos Soiree! While our Soiree was all in good fun, we were inspired by colorful and cultural pieces that are part of the three day Dia de los Muertos holiday.
We draped the entryway with papel picado banners to recreate the streets of Mexico during Dia de los Muertos. Day of the Dead is not supposed to be a scary holiday like Halloween, but a day of celebration and remembrance of the deceased. Tradition calls for altars decorated with sugar skulls, treats, lit candles, and marigolds.
Dressing up for Dia de los Muertos was maybe my favorite part! I rented a black lace dress from Rent The Runway (highly recommend for holidays, weddings, and events), and created a few rose floral crowns for our soiree, which you can purchase at ForeverLesFleurs!
A special Thank You to all who joined us, and to On A String Design for the fabulous Dia de los Muertos Balloon Arrangement! (If you are located in San Diego, check out their site for all holidays, birthdays, and weddings!)
We enjoyed the night with our family and friends, and we all hope they enjoyed our colorful and flavorful Dia de los Muertos Soiree!
